David John Stutzer

Durango resident David John Stutzer died at his home on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009. He was 71.

Mr. Stutzer was born to John and Wallola Stutzer in Davenport, Iowa, on April 6, 1938.

He graduated from Durango High School in 1956 and attended the Southern Institute of Graphic Arts from 1961 to 1962 in Nashville, Tenn.

On July 5, 1967, he married Betty Henrietta Kohler at the Methodist parsonage in Aztec.

Mr. Stutzer worked for the Colorado State Patrol as a dispatcher from 1966 to 1975, the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office as a dispatcher and clerk from 1977 to 1979 and as a deputy clerk for La Plata County Court from 1979 to 1983.

He worked at K-Mart from 1985 to 1991 and then at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the mid-1990s.

Mr. Stutzer was preceded in death by his wife of almost 42 years, Betty Stutzer, who died in April 2009.

No immediate family survives.

As Mr. Stutzer requested, there will be no funeral.

Burial will take place at Crestview Cemetery, which is located at U.S. Highway 160 and Colorado Highway 172.
