'Hawks announce Nationals lineup

Winners of three consecutive Division-I team titles at the event, the Fort Lewis College cycling team announced the members of its 2009 Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championship squad last week.

The championships will be held Friday through Sunday in Truckee, Calif.

The Skyhawks have been preparing by participating in weekly Rocky Mountain Collegiate Cycling Conference events, in which they finished second overall to Colorado University.

That placement allows FLC to send four riders to race in each discipline in Truckee.

Endurance riders will compete in the cross country and short track cross country events, while the gravity riders will race the four cross and downhill.

According to a news release obtained by The Durango Herald, the Skyhawks are “looking stronger than ever,” after last weekend’s conference finals event at Mesa State University in Grand Junction.
