Down to its final three games of the regular season, the Fort Lewis College volleyball team has won four of its last five matches.
"This was a good one," Skyhawks head coach Shelly Aaland said.
Fort Lewis avenged an early-season five-set loss at CSU-Pueblo with a clean sweep Friday night at Whalen Gymnasium - 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.
"Pueblo is always tough to play against," Aaland said. "They're a little less organized than how we like to play, so you don't know how (the volleyball) is going to come over (the net)." If it comes over at all.
Fort Lewis collected eight aces to just seven service errors.
"When they weren't getting aced, we were very disruptive," Aaland said. "This was really good. This looks like the team that we're used to seeing at Fort Lewis." Fort Lewis, with a chance to climb in the West Division standings after its 7 p.m. home match today against Adams State, improved to 8-16 overall and 6-10 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Fort Lewis will finish its regular season at home.
Jessica Wilson had her "comeback match" Friday night, Aaland said. The Durango High School alumna, who has battled an injury for the bulk of this season, had 10 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, six digs and four aces.
"She's been healthy (the last few matches), but she hasn't been mentally and physically healthy at the same time," Aaland said.
"She alleviates so much pressure. It's nice to see Jessica playing at that level again." Chelsea Flaming had eight kills, Jordan Squiers had four blocks, and Aaland said Taylor Hilberry and Natalie Reed played a great match in the middle.
