Mirabel is all-SJBL performer

Two members of the Ignacio High School volleyball team were honored this week when they were named to the All-San Juan Basin League teams.

Rose Mirabel, a junior, was named to the all-conference team representing Ignacio.

Teammate Santana Rodriguez was named to the all-league honorable mention team.

Jesse Paquin of Mancos was voted the top player in the conference this year. She led the Bluejays to the State Volleyball Tournament in Denver last weekend.

Aimee Johnson and Tatum Martinez, both of Mancos, also were named to the all-league team.

Tess Wallace and Cheyenne McCoy of Dolores were voted to the all-league team this season. Dolores also qualified for state this year.

Dove Creek's all-conference selections were Kayla Pribble and Sonja Strong.

Lyndsey Stindt and Brittney Barks of Norwood were named all-conference along with Taylor Zunich of Nucla and Allisyn Stanfield of Telluride.

Honorable-mention selections for 2009 included Courtney Brunner of Dolores, Emy Ludwig of Telluride, Richelle Walker of Ridgway, Katlyn Hardman of Norwood and Amanda Church of Nucla.

Mancos and Dolores each went 0-3 at state. The Bluejays fell to Simla and Sangre de Cristo in 3-2 matches. They fell 3-0 to Akron.

Dolores lost 3-0 to Resurrection Christian and Fowler. Dolores also lost 3-1 to Burlington.

Fowler, the defending state champion, repeated with a 3-0 win over Resurrection Christian (Loveland) in the state championship match Saturday night at the Denver Coliseum.
