September is something truly special in Durango ... arts month!

Get ready to immerse yourself in creativity and community as the 30th annual Durango Autumn Arts Festival takes center stage on Sept. 21 and 22. Held on the vibrant East Second Avenue, this beloved event is the largest outdoor art festival in the Four Corners, transforming four blocks into a bustling gallery of local and national talent.

From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, festivalgoers will have the opportunity to explore a diverse array of artwork from 100 artists. This year’s festival promises to showcase everything from intricate jewelry and stunning ceramics to captivating paintings and innovative sculptures. Whether you’re an art aficionado or a casual enthusiast, the festival offers something for everyone.

Adding to the cultural tapestry of Arts Month, the Durango Arts Repertory Theatre will open its much-anticipated production of “Wait Until Dark” on Sept. 13. This gripping thriller will run Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 29, offering an exciting opportunity to experience high-quality theater. Don’t miss this chance to see the dramatic story of suspense and intrigue unfold on stage. The all-local cast and crew have been working tirelessly to put this show together, and they can’t wait to share it with an audience.

In addition to the Autumn Arts Festival and theater performances, art lovers can also enjoy the current DAC Member Show at the DAC Gallery. Running through Sept. 28, this exhibit features works by DAC members, offering a unique glimpse into the diverse artistic expressions of our local talent. And of course the DAC’s Artisans market is brimming with handcrafted creations by local artists and makers. It’s the perfect spot to find unique gifts, home décor, or just to appreciate the craftsmanship of our talented community.

For those who enjoy hands-on experiences, we have youth and adult art classes for all levels of experience. If you’re looking to hone your already amazing skills or are brand new to the creative process, there are classes for you. A wide array of mediums and styles are yours for the choosing. Head to the website to check out the wonderful lineup available.

The Durango Autumn Arts Festival, the vibrant theater performances, the DAC Member Show and the Artisans Market all highlight the rich cultural life of Durango during Arts month. We invite you to join us for a September full of art, community and celebration.
