Sharla James believes a new form of accreditation will not only hold her home watch business to a higher standard, but also in turn bolster her credibility beyond Southwest Colorado.
James, who started working as a real estate agent more than six years ago, launched James Home Watch & More in February. She became certified as an individual home watch inspector during that time before earning National Home Watch Association accreditation in May.
James Home Watch & More is based in Bayfield, and it also serves Durango, Ignacio, Hesperus, Vallecito and Cortez. A home watch conducts a visual inspection of a property looking for obvious issues, according to the company’s website.
James said her company, which specializes in residential home and ranch properties, is now bonded and insured because of that NHWA accreditation, adding that the NHWA parent company can also keep tabs on issues such as whether a former client posts a negative review of her business on social media or files a complaint. James also said the new setup means potentially unhappy customers can reach out to the NHWA directly.
James said she will be better in tuned with situations that may come to her attention, such as issues someone may be having with their home security system.
