Mercy Regional Medical Center recognized as a Best Maternity Care Hospital by Newsweek

Centura Health-Mercy Regional Medical Center was named to Newsweek’s 2021 list of Best Maternity Care Hospitals.

The distinction recognizes facilities that have provided exceptional care to mothers, newborns and their families, as verified by the 2020 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Best Maternity Care Hospitals is part of Newsweek’s Best Health Care series.

Mercy’s Family Birth Center provides many services, including labor and delivery, post-partum care, well newborn nursery care and a Neotatal Intermediate Unit. The Family Birth Center features a state-of-the-art centralized fetal monitoring system and a secure, limited-access nursery. In addition to its 12 spacious, private birthing rooms, the Family Birth Center features two cesarean section recovery rooms, a tranquil water birth suite, a nursery and an operating room.

Hospitals named as a Best Maternity Care Hospital have fully met the Leapfrog Group’s rigorous standards for maternity care excellence. This includes achieving lower rates of C-sections, early elective delivery and episiotomy, as well as assuring bilirubin screening for all newborns and blood clot prevention techniques for mothers delivering via C-section.

Mercy was one of fewer than 225 to receive the accolade.
