I have a problem with the story, “Join us ... and the NRA” (Herald, March 9). The Herald’s bias came through and fell short on good journalism in this piece. It is evident the goal was to trash the National Rifle Association. The story quoted Steve Doob as saying, “The NRA has a lot of nutty positions I don’t want to support.” What are those nutty positions? Did you ask Doob? I am a member of the NRA, and I would like to know. To me, it seems the Herald should have asked and reported. Likewise, the great elk hunter Andrew Gulliford was quoted as saying, “The NRA is completely out of control and does not represent responsible hunters.” How about some examples of “out of control”?
The No. 1 goal of the NRA is to protect the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. They went after left-wing politicians who had voted to weaken the right to own guns and, for the first time in the history of Colorado, assisted in the recall of two of those politicians. I don’t call that out-of-control or a nutty position. I call it democracy!
