Story bit the hand that feeds the Herald

As a local, a consumer, an advertiser and a small-business owner, I was insulted and dismayed by the story, “War on November,” (Herald, Nov. 23). The story read more as a war on small business Durango. Naming local businesses in such a negative light was thoughtless and empty, even for such an uninspired story.

As a community that prides ourselves on supporting local businesses, The Durango Herald had an opportunity to shed positive light on those working so hard to keep local dollars local.

The story completely sidestepped the simple concept of supply and demand and instead of questioning consumers, chose to point fingers at local business. What is really noteworthy is the fact that this story was printed in the same week the Herald was soliciting heavily for local holiday advertising and fell one week short of small-business Saturday.

I can’t imagine this story will make it easy for the Herald salespeople to go knocking on the doors of local businesses.

Don’t bite the hand that feeds you.
