On Dec. 8 my husband and I traveled to Durango for medical reasons. We stopped at Walmart to shop. Parking in a handicap space, we walked a few steps when a red club-cab flatbed truck pulled up beside us and stopped on my left.
A large dog came at the window with a roar (not a bark) at my eye level only a few inches away. I screamed, side stepped into my husband on my right, and lost control of my crutches. I was falling. My husband was holding me, trying to keep us both from falling. I could hear him telling me I was “all right.”
An older woman came out of Walmart with red roses and tried to get in the truck with the dog trying to get out. The driver was swearing, he gunned the truck in a left hand turn and drove away.
I regained control of my crutches, but I was very upset by this dog. The next few nights I was awakened by this dog in my sleep. These people never spoke to us, never assisted my husband, just ignored us. They were not at all caring for the ill they caused us.
Durango must have laws about dogs, are they to be on leashes? Do they have to have tags? Do they have to be vaccinated? If a dog attacks you what laws protect you? In this case the dog reflects the personality of the owner. These people didn’t care about my husband or me. If they read this they (and family and friends) will know who they are. Watch out for this dog and the owners.
