American Legion honors the fallen in Cortez ceremony

The honor guard of the American Legion Ute Mountain Post 75 fires a rifle salute during a Memorial Day ceremony and breakfast Monday in Cortez. The salute symbolizes firing over the grave of a fallen soldier and is followed the taps bugle call. Those who died from war wounds are honored on Memorial Day. The Legion also announced an inaugural Summer Fest for July 20-21. The fundraiser for the post will feature carnival rides, game booths, food, music and dancing. It will be at the Legion, 320 N. Harrison St. in Cortez.
