An art exhibition featuring art by Cortez native Stanton Englehart will be held starting on Friday, Sept. 5, at the new Sundog Gallery in Mancos. (Sundog Gallery\/Courtesy photo)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>\n

Sundog Gallery, a newly opened art space in downtown Mancos, has announced that it will host an exhibition celebrating the life and work of Cortez painter Stanton Englehart, including rare pieces, never-before-seen pieces.<\/p>\n

The exhibition will open on Friday, Sept. 5 and can be viewed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Sundog Gallery, 107 W. Grand Ave. in Mancos.<\/p>\n

According to information from the gallery, Englehart was born on a farm in Cortez in 1931. In 1957, he moved to Durango to attend Fort Lewis College before earning a master\u2019s degree in fine arts from the University of Colorado. For 30 years, he taught in the college\u2019s art department before retiring in 1991 to focus on painting full-time.<\/p>\n

He died in 2009.<\/p>\n

The exhibition also will include personal notes, reflections, insights and more from Englehart into his creative process and style.<\/p>\n

Sundog Gallery opened its doors on Aug. 1 and hopes to be a hub for regional art.<\/p>\n
