{"id":29635,"date":"2024-01-19T20:31:43","date_gmt":"2024-01-19T20:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dead-farmington-woman-had-several-run-ins-with-police\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T07:00:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:00:40","slug":"dead-farmington-woman-had-several-run-ins-with-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/dead-farmington-woman-had-several-run-ins-with-police\/","title":{"rendered":"Dead Farmington woman had several run-ins with police"},"content":{"rendered":"Kelsie Todacheeny\u2019s last arrest was 19 days before her death\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=cc937c68-0d2e-5427-b87b-6f2387f5b819&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Kelsie Todacheeny, 33, was found dead Jan. 15 in a residence in the 2400 East 20th Street.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Kelsie Todacheeny, 33, was found dead Jan. 15 in a residence in the 2400 East 20th Street.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Farmington woman, whose Jan. 15 death, was classified as suspicious by the Farmington Police Department, had a few run-ins with law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Kelsie Todacheeny, 33, was found dead at 3:28 a.m. inside a home in the 2400 block of E. 20th St.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe circumstances surrounding Ms. Todacheeny\u2019s death are currently under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation,\u201d Farmington Police spokeswoman Shanice Gonzales said in a prepared statement.<\/p>\n<p>Todacheeny has had two known DWI cases. She pleaded no contest to the first in 2014, and to no contest to the second in 2019. By pleading no contest, she admitted there was enough evidence to convict her, without stating her own guilty, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>Then in 2018, she pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor assault on a peace officer in connection to an incident Sept. 12, 2017, at 2505 E, 25th St. in Farmington.<\/p>\n<p>Police were called to the home that Todacheeny shared with her boyfriend of nearly a decade, Melvin Becenti Jr., 31. At the time, police were investigating a \u201cdomestic violence physical fight,\u201d in which Todacheeny reportedly struck Becenti in the face and he reportedly bit Todacheeny\u2019s finger, court records state.<\/p>\n<p>However, when police attempted to make contact with Todacheeny, she became \u201caggressive and kicked\u201d a Farmington Police Department officer in the knee, court records state.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, Todacheeny pleaded guilty to a fourth-degree felony battery on a health care worker in connection to a Feb. 24 incident at the San Juan County Detention Center, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>Police first were called at 7:18 p.m. to a home in the 700 block of Brianna Place in response to Todacheeny and Becenti arguing. Todacheeny reportedly was locked in a bathroom and would not come out.<\/p>\n<p>Then, Todacheeny\u2019s father came to the residence, which he owned, and told police he wanted her removed and taken to the jail.<\/p>\n<p>When police entered the residence, Todacheeny was \u201cin the living room,\u201d but ran and \u201ctried to lock herself in a pantry closet.\u201d Becenti prevented her from closing the door, and police were able to get her \u201chands behind her back and placing her in cuffs,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>Todacheeny was transported to the San Juan County Detention Center, where she was escorted to the medical unit and was seen by an emergency medical technician, who used her \u201cpointer finger to check the tightness of the restraints,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>While the technician\u2019s finger was \u201cbetween the restraint and Kelsie\u2019s left leg, Kelsie flexed her leg and pushed it toward\u201d the woman, causing her finger \u201cto get twisted in the restraint\u201d and to \u201cpop,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>Todacheeny also spit on the technician.<\/p>\n<p>Todacheeny was placed on probation for the crimes and completed her probation receiving a conditional discharge, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>Her record remained clean until she was arrested Dec. 27 and booked into the San Juan County Detention Center on a misdemeanor \u201calcohol-related charge.\u201d She was sentenced to five days in jail and was released Dec. 31, 2023, according to jail records.<\/p>\n<p>Police are asking anyone with information regarding Todacheeny\u2019s death to \u201ccome forward and assist in the investigation,\u201d Gonzales said, adding police are seeking \u201cinformation that may aid in understanding the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Farmington detectives can be contacted at (505) 599-1068.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kelsie Todacheeny\u2019s last arrest was 19 days before her death<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":29636,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[28],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-29635","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines"],"acf":[],"author_name":"Website Administrator","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29635","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=29635"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29635\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":80811,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/29635\/revisions\/80811"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/29636"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=29635"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=29635"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=29635"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=29635"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
