{"id":29884,"date":"2024-01-05T19:00:56","date_gmt":"2024-01-06T02:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-allegedly-drives-drunk-strikes-cars-poles-and-sign\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T01:05:59","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:05:59","slug":"man-allegedly-drives-drunk-strikes-cars-poles-and-sign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-allegedly-drives-drunk-strikes-cars-poles-and-sign\/","title":{"rendered":"Man allegedly drives drunk, strikes cars, poles and sign"},"content":{"rendered":"Jason Maxwell charged with first DWI\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=065d4f88-c7df-53ba-82eb-7aba0dde91da&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Jason Maxwell\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Jason Maxwell<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Farmington man was arrested on a first DWI after he reportedly struck cars, poles and a sign before stopping.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Maxwell, 46, was driving a 2005 silver Jeep Wrangler on Browning Parkway at 6 p.m. Dec. 28, when he struck a car and reportedly \u201cfled eastbound on Morning Star.\u201d His blood alcohol levels were 0.16 to 0.17, which is nearly twice the legal limit, according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n<p>A witness followed Maxwell, reporting to dispatch what he observed and that was Maxwell reportedly striking \u201cvehicles as well as poles\u201d before coming to a stop when he \u201ccrashed into a sign\u201d near the intersection of County Road 3900 and County Road 3950, court records state.<\/p>\n<p>The witness stated he saw the Jeep \u201ctraveling between 80 and 90 mph,\u201d and he reportedly saw it leave \u201cthe roadway completely and struck a sign,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>A driver of a Dodge Charger also followed Maxwell to the scene, because Maxwell reportedly struck the Charger and \u201cfled a crash scene,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>The San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to the scene and found Maxwell outside, leaning on the rear of his Jeep. He reportedly admitted to driving the vehicle, and law enforcement reported \u201ca strong odor of an alcohol beverage emitting off his person,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell reportedly disclosed that he had been driving from the East Main Safeway in Farmington, when he consumed a \u201cCorona\u201d beer Fiesta Mexicana.
