{"id":29925,"date":"2024-01-02T19:54:22","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T02:54:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-allegedly-kills-brother-with-box-cutter-at-home-they-shared\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T01:06:46","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T07:06:46","slug":"man-allegedly-kills-brother-with-box-cutter-at-home-they-shared","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/man-allegedly-kills-brother-with-box-cutter-at-home-they-shared\/","title":{"rendered":"Man allegedly kills brother with box cutter at home they shared"},"content":{"rendered":"Orson Dickie charged with second-degree murder\n<p><figure class=\"wp-block-image naviga-inline-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imengine.public.prod.dur.navigacloud.com\/?uuid=1ca1276f-c4b3-524b-bae2-3c3e643524ae&amp;function=cover&amp;type=preview&amp;source=false&amp;width=2000\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" alt=\"Orson Dickie, 25, of Farmington is accused of killing his brother Payson Dickie, 27, with a box cutter.\" class=\"naviga-image\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption><span class=\"caption\">Orson Dickie, 25, of Farmington is accused of killing his brother Payson Dickie, 27, with a box cutter.<\/span><span class=\"credit\">cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><p>A Farmington man allegedly killed his brother with a box cutter after a New Year\u2019s Eve of drinking in their trailer.<\/p>\n<p>Payson Dickie, 27, was found with \u201cthree lacerations to the face,\u201d and according to the Office of the Medical Investigator, the \u201clargest was located by the ear and up toward the temple,\u201d where it reportedly \u201csevered the temporal artery,\u201d according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Orson Dickie, 25, reportedly admitted to police that he slashed his brother with a box cutter after a New Year\u2019s Eve of \u201clistening to music, playing video games and consuming whiskey,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Farmington Police were called to the home of Orson and Payson Dickie in the Alexander Trailer Park at 1124 Fairgrounds Road, where the two had lived as roommates for the past four years. It was the men\u2019s sister, Rhiannon Dickie, who called the police at 8:30 a.m., after Orson reportedly told her he found Payson dead.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives found \u201ca copious amount of apparent blood on the sidewalk, staircase and door,\u201d and they \u201cdiscovered a body in the entry way as well as a trail of apparent blood in the entry way and down the hallway into the back bedroom,\u201d according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation of the scene led detectives to the alleged murder weapon, \u201ca box cutter knife in the bedroom closest to the front door with what appeared to be blood located on the nightstand,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Detectives also reportedly found \u201cseveral 99 brand single shot bottles in the trash can and marijuana smoking pipes on the kitchen counter\u201d and \u201ca lot of marijuana smoking pipes in the bedroom as well,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Orson reportedly told police he and his brother had spent Sunday afternoon with Dickie because they needed to shower at her house and get ready. When Rhiannon dropped them off at home they \u201cstarted having a couple of drinks,\u201d Orson said, according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>When the neighbors were questioned, they reportedly told police \u201cthe two brothers who lived in Space 9 were known to be aggressive when they were intoxicated,\u201d according to the affidavit.<\/p>\n<p>Orson also reportedly told police that they \u201chad an argument which ended with Payson walking outside.\u201d Orson claimed he went to bed around 2 or 3 a.m. and when he awoke, he looked for Payson finding him \u201claying there facedown at the bottom of the stairs on the concrete,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOrson said he couldn\u2019t feel a pulse and tried to shake him, attempted chest compressions but knew Payson was gone,\u201d the affidavit states. Orson also allegedly told police he brought his brother\u2019s body inside and covered it with a blanket.<\/p>\n<p>Police then, asked Orson about the fight he said he had with his brother. He alleged that it started with them \u201cshoving each other,\u201d resulting \u201cin him being thrown on the ground.\u201d Orson also reportedly stated that Payson \u201cstepped on his throat and was crushing it,\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Orson told police he reportedly grabbed the box cutter and pointed it toward Payson cutting him, but he insisted that Payson was the aggressor and \u201ceither passed out or \u2018pretty much froze to death\u2019\u201d the affidavit states.<\/p>\n<p>Orson also reportedly said \u201che wanted Payson to stop coming at him which was the reason he took the box cutter out,\u201d according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Police stated in the affidavit that Orson did not have injuries consistent with being \u201cstrangled,\u201d and \u201chis eyes did not have any discoloration from popped blood vessels which is common when a person is strangled.\u201d Orson also lacked injuries \u201cindicative of a physical fight,\u201d such as \u201cbruising,\u201d \u201cscratch marks, swelling, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orson also reportedly denied seeing blood in the home, but he did say \u201cthe gash\u201d to Payson\u2019s face \u201cwas pretty bad,\u201d and he mentioned \u201chow much blood there was\u201d according to the affidavit for arrest warrant.<\/p>\n<p>Police added in the affidavit that Orson\u2019s \u201cexplanation and description of the fight doesn\u2019t match the blood in the room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orson Dickie was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
