Randal Dugan, 48, entered a no-contest plea to aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after shooting a man on his family's property.<\/span>cca<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p>

A self-described YouTuber, \u201clooking for a thrill,\u201d was shot earlier this year when he went onto private property in La Plata.<\/p>\n

Juvian Bedoni, 21, was left with a fractured vertebrae, damaged kidney, liver and colon, when he was struck by a bullet from a .40-caliber Glock handgun the morning of July 20 at a home on County Road 1494.<\/p>\n

The man, who shot him, Randal Jay Dugan, 48, of La Plata, was charged with one count of third-degree aggravated battery, a charge he pleaded no contest to on Dec. 11 in front of District Judge Karen Townsend.<\/p>\n

Dugan admitted there was enough evidence to prosecute him, but he did not directly admit his guilt, as Dugan told the police that Bedoni was on private property and attempted to break into a home belonging to his in-laws, according to court records.<\/p>\n

However, Bedoni told San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s deputies he \u201cclimbed over the fence\u201d to gain access to the property, but \u201cdidn\u2019t try jiggling the door.\u201d He stated that he \u201cnever went on the front porch, nor did he look in the windows\u201d; instead, \u201che was only walking around the outside of the trailer,\u201d according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

Bedoni admitted to police he had been drinking and was walking around the property \u201clooking for excitement,\u201d when he heard someone yell, \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d He told detectives he thought \u201cOh shoot, I\u2019m busted,\u201d and he began running away. This is when he heard a shot and felt \u201csignificant pain\u201d and fell to the ground, according to court records.<\/p>\n

Bedoni lay in the field waiting for help, and Dugan and his wife called for emergency services. Karie Dugan remained with him, \u201cpraying,\u201d until AirCare arrived to lift him out of the field and back to the hospital.<\/p>\n

As sheriff\u2019s detectives investigated the case, they were told by Dugan that he \u201ccouldn\u2019t see\u201d Bedoni and had fired \u201cwarning shots.\u201d However, Karie Dugan told detectives she \u201ccould see the male from where she was at,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n

Dugan said he fired \u201cthrough the bush,\u201d and that he \u201cdidn\u2019t know what the male was wearing and it was \u2018all black\u2019 because of the low light,\u201d court records state.<\/p>\n

Dugan also claimed Bedoni tried to kick in the front door, but sheriff\u2019s detectives said there was no evidence of an attempted break-in at the location, court records state.<\/p>\n

Detectives continued questioning Dugan as to the location of the shooting, but they could not locate shell casings in the area, where Dugan said he was standing. They also reported in the statement of probable cause that there was \u201ca fence line and Juvian was on the other side on a different property.\u201d<\/p>\n

After investigating and walking the property, sheriff\u2019s detectives stated that Dugan\u2019s \u201cstatement that he never saw anyone there appears highly unlikely,\u201d and it also \u201cindicated he likely aimed directly at the tree\u201d where Bedoni was standing, and the \u201clighting conditions and landscape where the incident took place appear to indicate\u201d Dugan \u201cshould have seen a human silhouette,\u201d according to the statement of probable cause.<\/p>\n

Under the plea agreement, Dugan agreed to \u201cforfeit the firearm\u201d used in the incident, and the Office of the District Attorney stated there would be no opposition to supervised probation and a conditional discharge.<\/p>\n
