She pleaded guilty to the charge May 4, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya admitted that on Jan. 19, 2022, she got into an argument with a man at her home on the Jicarilla Apache Reservation in Dulce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the argument, Montoya hit (the man) on the head two times with a snow shovel, causing him to fall and have a seizure,\u201d according to court records.<\/p>\n<p>Montoya remained with the man for four hours, but for a reason not stated, she was unable to call for help, until \u201ca friend showed up at the residence and called 911,\u201d court records stated.<\/p>\n<p>Emergency Medical Services of the Jicarilla Apache Tribe took the man to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, where he died from his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Medical records showed the man suffered a traumatic brain injury, a fractured rib, two cuts on his scalp and severe bruising on his upper body, according to court documents.<\/p>\n<p>The Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated Montoya\u2019s case with assistance from the Jicarilla Apache Police and the San Juan County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n<p>Upon her release from prison, Montoya will be subject to three years of supervised release.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laurice Montoya receives 5-year sentence<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":23686,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[28],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-32450","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines"],"acf":[],"author_name":"Website Administrator","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32450","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=32450"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32450\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":81799,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/32450\/revisions\/81799"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/23686"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=32450"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=32450"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=32450"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=32450"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
