The League of Women Voters will host a Zoom presentation,\u00a0\u201cThe Fake News Marketplace: How It Works and Why It Matters\u201d in a Zoom meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19.<\/p>\n

The term, \u201cfake news marketplace\u201d has been coined to describe the business of selling false and misleading information under the guise of traditional journalism, the league said in a news release. The discussion will be led by Dr. Justin McBrayer, author of the book \u201cBeyond Fake News: Finding Truth in a World of Misinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The free Zoom meeting will be held Jan. 19, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Register at lwvcolorado.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u200bDuring the presentation, McBrayer will discuss why we have a fake news problem, and why the fake news marketplace is so dangerous. He will also present possible solutions, believing, as he says, \u201cAs a society, there\u2019s a lot we can do to clean up our informational environment and limit the damage of fake news.\u201d<\/p>\n

McBrayer is a professor of philosophy, and an associate dean\/division coordinator at Fort Lewis College in Durango.\u00a0He presents and publishes widely in journals including as\u00a0International Journal for Philosophy of Religion, Religious Studies,\u00a0and\u00a0Philosophical Studies,\u00a0and at conferences and programs around the world. He is the past chairman of the Mountain-Pacific regional committee of the Society of Christian Philosophers and is an ad-hoc reviewer for many journals.<\/p>\n
