The possibility of adopting the curriculum was discussed a few times throughout the school year, and the Dolores school board unanimously approved the sequence at its regular meeting <a href=\"https:\/\/doloresschools.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/March-12-2020-Board-Meeting-Minutes.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March 12<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to Dolores Superintendent Lis Richard, the district underwent a curriculum audit back in 2018, and Re-4A leadership decided that a \u201cvertically aligned and comprehensive curriculum was needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Core Knowledge sequence aims to be \u201ccontent-specific,\u201d \u201ccumulative\u201d and \u201ccoherent,\u201d according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coreknowledge.org\/our-approach\/core-knowledge-sequence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Sequence is intended to help children establish strong foundations of knowledge grade by grade from preschool through grade eight,\u201d the website states.<\/p>\n<p>The sequence offers plans in a broad range of content, including language arts, history, geography, mathematics, science, visual arts and music.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/doloresschools.org\/press-release-k-8-adopts-core-knowledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a> to families, Richard emphasized that the curriculum is cross-curricular, gives teachers access to a range of resources, and will allow students to build on the knowledge they gain from year to year.<\/p>\n<p><em class=\"mwc_shirttail\"><a href=\"mailto:ealvero@the-journal.com\">ealvero@the-journal.com<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Board votes in March to implement Core Knowledge<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":44384,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[],"tags":[28],"naviga_topic":[],"class_list":["post-52623","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-headlines"],"acf":[],"author_name":"Website Administrator","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/52623","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=52623"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/52623\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":88120,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/52623\/revisions\/88120"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/44384"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=52623"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=52623"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=52623"},{"taxonomy":"naviga_topic","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.durangoherald.com\/tj\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/naviga_topic?post=52623"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
