In response to Robert Rosenburg’s letter (Herald, May 31) and to others over the past several years, I would like to suggest that the speed or wake size of a boat over the water has nothing to do with the introduction of invasive species.
In fact, any boat potentially could have invasive species present. That would include kayaks or rafts as well as rowboats or sailboats.
Granted, some watercraft are more likely than others. When the first invasive species is found in Lake Nighthorse, the hue and cry will be to ban all motorboats. There will be no proof that it didn’t get pumped to the lake directly from the Animas. We need to inspect the thousands of launchings into the river as well as the ones directly into the lake.
It’s time to focus on the invasive species instead of the powerboaters. Water skiers pay their share of the taxes that paid for the dam as well as the paddlers.
How about sharing that beautiful resource with everyone?
