Churches plan weekend of service projects

Four area churches will join forces this weekend for Live Out Loud, an opportunity to worship with hearts and hands. Volunteers from Christ the King Lutheran, First United Methodist Church, River Church, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and others will serve outside the walls of normal church locations. Volunteers will garden, mow, paint, write letters, make meals, assemble solar lamps, work with Habitat for Humanity, make sleeping mats, knit baby hats and more. First United Methodist Church will not hold its regular worship; all other churches will meet at their usual times.

Dharma Center to offer beginning meditation class

Durango Dharma Center leader Katherine Barr will present a five-week beginning meditation class from 10-11:30 a.m. on Thursdays, beginning this Thursday and ending on July 14. Classes will be held at the Dharma Center, 1800 East 3rd Ave., Suite 109, across from St. Columba Catholic Church and School and next to the Durango Public Library.

Using insight meditation, participants will explore mindfulness and meditation, which can help ease stress, pain and other difficulties. Time will be available for questions and discussion. All are welcome, from beginners to experienced practitioners. To register or for more information, visit www.durangodharmacenter.org. For questions, call Mary O’Donnell at 970-903-5009 or email maryodgo@gmail.com.
