Manna to blame for homeless problem?

Thank you, Durango Herald, for the both funny and insightful “headlines we would like to see” in the weekend edition (Jan. 6). A couple of the submissions really caught my attention.

I have been concerned about the inaction of the city council to even consider real solutions to the problems of bears and homeless panhandlers. Victims of bear damage are fined for not preventing bears from spreading garbage. They are even accused of being the cause of bears being in Durango in the first place.

This kind of mindset has no chance to produce anything meaningful. If that thinking is correct, then how much should Manna Soup Kitchen be fined for their part in attracting the homeless and enabling them to stay and flourish in Durango?

As another submission suggested, it is time for the city council to start making rational decisions. How about giving up the Kool-Aid as a new year’s resolution?
