What A Girl Wants Expo is an event featuring all things of interest to women. This year's expo runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.
A new event this year is the Mountain Spirits Cocktail Competition at 3 p.m., benefiting the Women's Resource Center.
Participating bars are Derailed Pourhouse, Wild Horse Saloon, Billy Goat Saloon, and Cyprus Cafe-Eno Wine Bar. These women-owned and women-managed establishments are putting up their most talented female bartenders to create interesting cocktail creations. Attendees receive a tasting glass, tasting tickets to redeem for samples of each cocktail, and the opportunity to vote for the best cocktail. The cost is $15, with proceeds benefiting the Women's Resource Center.
Throughout the day, vendors will feature jewelry, hair and nail salons, cosmetics, clothing and accessories, sports and outdoor, children's products, health and fitness products and systems, food and cooking, home decor, self-improvement, home businesses and more.
In addition to food from Bloom Cafe and Singletrack Coffee, a glass of wine or a tasting from Four Leaves Winery is also available. "Our dining area will be family style and we will have conversation-starters at all the tables encouraging you to get to know other women at the event," said Abby Feldman of Four Corners Expos, which is organizing the event. "Creating a tight-knit community of women is important to us and we want you to answer the question 'what do women really want?' so that we can continue to improve this event for you."
All-day entertainment will be featured with live music by Leah Orlikowsky and Unique, in addition to yoga classes and dance demonstrations.
Workshops will cover topics such as motherhood, work-life balance, body positivity, self-defense, mental health and mindfulness, successful local women in business, women in sports/outdoors, cooking and nutrition, organization and time management, local arts, gardening, crafts, and financial planning..
Durango Friends of the Library will host a book swap where women can give a book and take a book from the collection.
Expo tickets are $5 at the door, or tickets for admission and the cocktail competition are available for $20 at the Durango Herald.
