The Colorado State Forest Service Durango District will hold a workshop in March about planting conservation seedling trees. The workshop is offered in cooperation with the La Plata Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Colorado State University Extension.
Workshops will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 18 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds.
The worskhop will focus on the specifics of designing a planting project, placing seedlings in the ground and caring for them in the future.
The workshop will cover:
. Objectives of planting
. Planting location and site characteristics
. Varieties of trees and shrubs suited to southwest Colorado
. Preparing soil
. Weed control
. Watering and moisture retention
. Sun and wind protection
. Wildlife planting objectives
. Erosion control
