A trac-hoe sits on one of the roads shut down during construction in the Twin Buttes subdivision west of Durango in 2015. Starting Tuesday, agencies will be conducting a prescribed burn in the Twin Buttes open space adjacent to the subdivision.
Durango Parks and Recreation Department is working with Durango Fire Protection District and Twin Buttes to complete a prescribed burn in the Twin Buttes open space starting Tuesday and continuing through the month of October, weather depending.
The goal of the maintenance project is to decrease wildfire risk by burning slash piles from previous fire mitigation efforts in the area.
The lower loop will remain open to the public, however, users should be aware that Durango Fire Protection District staff and vehicles will be in the area. Smoke from the prescribed fire may be hazardous to people’s health.
