Herald endorses Trump’s bad policies

The Herald’s endorsement of Walker Stapleton is perplexing. Is the editorial board gullible or just plain sticking its heads in the sand?

First, the board derides Jared Polis for being a self-made man using his own money to fund his campaign of real ideas. Did you deride the president for using his “billions” to fund his campaign? Seems silly.

Money aside, the Herald’s endorsement ignores actuality. Stapleton (endorsed by Trump) is lockstep with the Trump administration: the same crowd who believes oil and gas are the lifeblood of our state, rather than tourism and our panoply of outdoor recreational activities. The Trump crowd doesn’t believe in climate change, doesn’t respect our public lands, promotes regressive policies that ignore the causes of Colorado’s ever-growing destructive fire seasons and doesn’t recognize that Colorado’s majestic lands and rivers are the true economic lifeblood of our state and community.

Oil and gas will dry up but the lure of our great outdoors will thrive for countless decades to come, bringing many dollars into our state’s coffers. We must protect our state’s beauty and its economy by voting for candidates who live in the present, not in the world of tired proposals akin to “drill, baby drill.”

Seems the Herald learned nothing from our fire disaster this summer and its devastating economic and environmental impact on people’s lives, property and tourism.

Voters can correct the Herald’s error on Nov. 6 by voting for candidates with evolving ideas, not the same old stale positions.
