100 years ago: Farms in the area had a massive season, to the extent that “quite a number” of San Juan basin residents were “preparing to retire from work” after their potato crop was harvested.

75 years ago: The Durango News printed a notice, “NEWS Won’t Print Unsigned Items,” that reminded the “correspondents and citizens of Durango who send news items each week” that newsroom staff would not publish anonymous submissions “for obvious reasons.”

50 years ago: Three people from Cortez were injured when their car skidded out of control and overturned as it crested the hill on U.S. Highway 160 at Pleasant View.

25 years ago: Associated Press reported a tornado 10 miles south of Durango that “touched down and raised back into the clouds several times.”
