San Juan Forest announces promotion

Laurie Swisher, a forester and old-growth coordinator for the San Juan National Forest, has been named regional vegetation applications coordinator.

Swisher started her U.S. Forest Service career in 1984 as a seasonal forestry technician with the Gunnison National Forest. She joined the staff of the San Juan National Forest in 1990.

Swisher has helped develop the Forest’s old-growth tree database, and, stemming from her efforts, every forested stand on the San Juan National Forest has been evaluated for its old-growth character.

Swisher is also a founding member of the San Juan String Band, which provides conservation education to audiences through music.
