Irish head coach Kelly calls accountability the key
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said he needs to do a better job of creating an environment in which players know they are accountable after learning four are being investigated for suspected academic dishonesty.
Kelly said Saturday he was disappointed and shocked to learn about the investigation. He said players know Notre Dame won’t compromise its integrity, and he applauds the university for that.
The university announced Friday that leading returning receiver DaVaris Daniels, backup linebacker Kendall Moore, starting cornerback KeiVarae Russell and defensive end Ishaq Williams were being withheld from games and practices during the investigation.

Sutherland shoots first 59 on the Champions Tour
ENDICOTT, N.Y. – Kevin Sutherland was only eight holes into his round Saturday at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open and already thinking about a 59.
“You’re not supposed to do that, are you?” he said.
The way this magical round went, nothing was going to stop him. Sutherland became the first player in Champions Tour history to shoot a 59, and it might have been even better except for a three-putt bogey from about 40 feet just off the 18th green.
Six players have shot 59 on the PGA Tour, including Paul Goydos, Sutherland’s best friend on tour. Goydos was among several players who stood behind the 18th green to watch Sutherland complete a round that practically was flawless until the end.
The 59 gave Sutherland a one-shot lead over Steve Lowery going into the final round.
