This is in response to Vi McCoy (Letters, Herald, July 1) and anyone else who believes loving is a sin.
Yes, I want gay parades for my children and grandchildren. I want love and tolerance and to live in a country that allows freedom; which is what we are founded upon. Gay people have not turned their backs on God, but rather, the ones who judge them have. Did not even Jesus say, “Judge not, lest ye be judged”?
May I propose that a gay person is not “bound by their lifestyle” as McCoy suggested. Actually, she sounds pretty “bound” in her opinion.
The only reason why gay people could possibly be “hurting souls” is not their “sin” but rather the pain of rejection and closet mentality our “Christian” society has forced them into.
McCoy was shaming the Herald for a Sunday printing of the gay parade, which offended her spirituality. I am ashamed I have to read such bigotry in my daily newspaper, particularly since we have federal laws now against such discrimination; especially on Independence Day weekend!
I am grateful to all forms of media through the years that have bridged me away from entertaining many of the thoughts she was suggesting. In this day of knowledge, it is a choice to be ignorant.
May I go live with her Satan and his “evil hold,” as she called it, and may I not live with her lord for all of eternity; don’t want to be there. I would rather “burn in hell” with all the cool gay folks I have come to know. They are a lot more fun and somehow, I think the flames are not going to be very hot – just hot enough for us to roast some tasty marshmallows.
