The Durango High School girls cross-country team had all five of its scoring runners place in the top 14 at Battle Mountain’s Husky Invitational on Saturday, helping the team win the race handily.
DHS finished first with 39 points, followed by Monarch (81), Battle Mountain (83), Cheyenne Mountain (135) and Summit (137) in the 11-team race. Defending state champion Niwot didn’t compete.
Willow Lott led the Demons with a second-place finish in 20 minutes, 46 seconds. Tea Forrest finished third in 20:53. Angela McManus crossed seventh in 21:28. Nina Quayle finished 13th in 22:17, and Abby Fehr rounded out Durango’s scoring with a 14th-place finish in 22:19.
Brynn Aggeler, meanwhile, finished 20th in 23:04, and Ashley Forrest finished 29th out of the 80 runners in 23:50.
Summit’s Ella Hagen won the race in 19:55.
In the boys’ race, Durango’s Land Lambert and Damian Frausto finished first and second, helping DHS finish third as a team.
Lambert won the race in 16:47. Frausto finished second in 17:14, five seconds ahead of Monarch’s Sam Kapner.
Nathaniel Ellis was the next Demon to finish, crossing 29th in 19:02. Charlie Dillman placed 31st in 19:13, and Will McFarlane scored Durango’s final points, crossing 44th in 20:53. Thomas Pope also competed for the Demons, placing 48th out of 77 runners in 21:21.
Battle Mountain won the boys’ team title with 52 points, followed by Mead (67), Durango (101), Cheyenne Mountain (109) and Eagle Valley (117) out of 10 teams.
Durango will be off this weekend and will race next Sept.11 at the Joe Vigil Invitational in Alamosa.
