Cathy Mewmaw is the only independent candidate running for the Durango School District 9-R board.
As such, you will not see letters to the editor endorsing a slate of candidates and espousing ideas from either of the political parties. Cathy has one guiding principle: How will decisions made by the board impact teachers, students and the learning environment.
Cathy has a master’s degree in education, was recognized by the state of Illinois as “The Outstanding New Teacher of the Year” and is the only candidate who was a classroom teacher in District 9-R. She knows what goes on in a classroom, how hard teachers work to educate students and the roadblocks brought on by decisions with unintended consequences.
