Funding comes, in part, from members who donated on their bills

The La Plata Electric Round Up Foundation Board approved 38 grants in 2021 totaling $118,754 for nonprofits in La Plata and Archuleta counties.

The foundation was established in 1997 as a community support fund for organizations and people in La Plata Electric Association’s service territory. A local, 11-member volunteer board reviews applications and allocates money.

In 2020, the foundation approved 44 grants totaling $115,785. Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000.

In 2021, grant recipients included 4Core, Animas High School, Aspire Medical Services, Bear Smart Durango, Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County, Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado, Chimney Rock Interpretive Association, Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration, Community Treehouse and many more.

A full list of grant recipients will eventually be available online at www.lpea.coop/round-your-lpea-bill.

Grants are made possible in part by LPEA members who have elected to round up their electric bills to the next highest dollar. The average LPEA member contributes only $6 annually.

The LPEA board also contributed $60,000 in unclaimed LPEA capital credits to the foundation’s grants.
