Durango Botanic Gardens recently selected Shirlee Krantz as the first recipient of the Docent of the Quarter award.
DBG Docents are garden guides but also lead many administrative and horticultural projects. The award was given to Krantz for outstanding service to the gardens’ many endeavors.
Krantz has created new plant identification material for fellow docents, written materials for the DBG website, organized and supervised maintenance volunteers, and used her skills as a retired teacher to create and lead educational programs for young people in the community.
Currently, she is designing and building the Youth Garden in DBG’s new Literary Garden.
