Durango High School boys lacrosse goalie Bode Ensign was honored recently for his performance this spring. The senior scored an all-state honorable mention in Class 4A after making some incredible saves this season.
Ensign, with the help of a strong defense, made it hard for opposing teams to score on the Demons. He saved 191 shots this season, more than 60% of those he faced, and averaged 11 stops per game.
Ensign also was honored by the 4A/5A Mountain League, as were two teammates.
Senior attacker Harry Halverstadt, sophomore midfielder Henry Howe and Ensign all scored all-league second-team honors.
Howe and Halverstadt were Durango’s leading scorers. Howe scored 18 goals and assisted 29 for DHS. He was also the only Demon to play in all 13 team games. Halverstadt scored 13 goals and had four assists to balance the team’s attack.
No players from the league were named to the all-state first or second team, but several others received honorable mentions like Ensign. Other league players honored include Telluride sophomore Lucas Betz, senior Jonas Kohout of Glenwood Springs and Telluride senior Tyler Perpar in Class 4A. Fruita Monument seniors Tony Farber and Tyler Draper received honorable mentions in Class 5A after helping the Wildcats win the league title.
The Demons finished 1-12 overall this season and 1-9 in the 4A/5A Mountain League.
