From Durango High School to Colorado School of Mines, placekicker Avery Llewellyn kicked himself into Colorado football royalty. Llewellyn, the son of Jack and Karen Llewellyn, was named the National Football Foundation-Colorado Chapter Special Teams Player of the Year – next to Colorado State running back Kapri Bibbs, the offensive player of the year; CSU-Pueblo defensive end Darius Allen, the defensive player of the year; and CSU-Pueblo head coach John Wristen, the coach of the year. Voted on by the 10 NFFCC sports information directors, the list echoes the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference all-conference selection that also picked Llewellyn as its special teams player of the year. Llewellyn ranked third in the RMAC in scoring with 86 points. He converted 14-of-19 field goals and 44-of-47 extra-point attempts. A two-time RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week selection this season, the 6-4, 180-pound sophomore also averaged 44.2 yards per punt on 35 punts. He posted 34 touchbacks on 75 kickoffs.
