Rep. Hurd, please review your oath of office

Rep. Hurd, I had the chance to meet you briefly during your visit to Durango last Wednesday and felt hopeful that you would stand up to Trump when called upon to represent your constituency, such as your support of a bill to address tariff policy that is hurting our economy. Thank you for your courage in this.

Meanwhile, we have a president who is refusing to follow orders from judges and the Supreme Court regarding unlawful deportations. The constitution gives Congress the authority to hold the president accountable for unlawful acts, such as illegal deportations to a foreign prison without due process and defying the Supreme Court.

This moment requires courage to stand up to a runaway presidency, up to and including impeachment. A censure of the president, with threat of impeachment, would send the message that our representatives, regardless of party, will not tolerate this affront to the constitution, that you just told me here in Durango that you took an oath to uphold. This is that moment, I urge you to review that oath and what it demands of you and your fellow congressional representative.

Thank you for your willingness to speak with those of us who disagree with some of your positions today, it gave me some hope that there are those in Congress who may be willing to follow their conscience, the law and the constitution.

Sincerely,

Rohan Roy
