Don’t waste your breath

On Wednesday morning, June 25, an inquiry was made at the Aztec Municipal School District office regarding the locked gates at the Park Elementary School. The unidentified school official rejected any possibility of unlocking the gates despite the safety issues present endangering neighborhood children. This polite discussion was a waste of time since outrageous lies were emphasized by this administrator. This individual seemed unconcerned for the children's welfare, despite the traffic dangers of kids playing in the streets, in addition to displaying a snobbish demeanor toward a citizen.

This individual claimed that unlocking the gates so that children can use the facilities this summer was “too expensive.” When asked, this person did not provide a figure. Until recently the grounds were available for decades for recreational use. The cost of unlocking these gates, having one person walk around and unlocking the locks in June, then locking them in August is negligible. An estimate of 5 minutes is generous to perform this task. A volunteer could perform this task.

The city of Aztec installed stop signs immediately to the west of Park Avenue Elementary on Navajo Avenue with the hope of slowing down the traffic adjacent to the school. This attempt was a waste by city officials because too many drivers do not stop. These stop signs should be removed because too many drivers ignore them and speed down Navajo Avenue.

The taxes fund schools, the Trump Administration has proposed drastic changes to education. Since citizens are not respected, perhaps drastic change is overdue.
