As a resident of La Plata County, I support Ballot Measure 1A, the proposed 1% sales tax increase. Tourists contribute significantly to our local economy, and this measure ensures that everyone who benefits from our county helps sustain it.
A modest 1% increase – just one cent on the dollar – is a reasonable way to fund essential services such as crisis care, public safety, and infrastructure, without placing the entire burden on property owners.
Our community relies on dependable public safety services, including crisis response, law enforcement, and emergency management. Rising costs and an outdated tax structure threaten these critical functions that safeguard our families and neighbors.
This modest increase will help La Plata County maintain the resources needed to preserve vital services, respond effectively to emergencies, and uphold the quality of life we all value.
