Holes-in-one a family affair for Trollans

I have reported on local golf activity for more than 36 years and, if my recollection is still in tact, this is a first for my column. We know how rare a hole-in-one is, and there are some years when a string of aces fill up a season. Then there are years when not a single feat is accomplished.

Now comes the fun, as a father and son can share two rare moments only three days apart at Hillcrest Golf Club. On July 7, Kenny Trollan recorded a double-eagle ace on the par-4 6th hole. Then, lo and behold, on July 9 his father, Dan Trollan, aced the 6th hole at Hillcrest.

Just the mere mention of this gives me goose bumps. I wonder if the Guinness Book of World Records has a category for this incredible father-son hole-in-one happening? Congratulations to you both for a memory which will last forever.

The ladies will step up to the tee box July 18 as the annual Tarpley RV of Durango Women’s Chili Pepper Challenge hits the links at Hillcrest. This event has an added purse of $1,500 and brings together some of the best women golfers in the Four Corners for this two-person team event. Action will get underway at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday with a shotgun start.

While I am still talking about Hillcrest, the Durango Dermatology “Skins” Game and Progressive Best Ball will be contested July 22, and the format gives you two chances to win. This event is followed July 24-25 with the Hillcrest Junior Club Championship.

Two outstanding tournaments to wrap up the month of July at Hillcrest. Check the pro shop sign up sheets for all the information.

Dalton Ranch Golf Club

The annual United Way Tournament will be held July 21. Then, July 26, hold onto your collective costumes as the annual 3 Queen Bees and a Honey event will be contested at DRGC.

The format is the same with three female golfers and one male golfer on each team. However, the male golfer cannot be on his spouse’s team. The sign-up sheet is in the pro shop. There are several fun sidebars to this event and a luncheon after the event.

Now let’s get to some results from the past two weeks:
