A good weekend at the USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships in Colorado Springs netted the Fort Lewis College cycling team a runner-up finish in the team omnium, and FLC’s Zach Noonan claimed the national omnium title for the men along with a bevy of other medals.
The Skyhawks finished the weekend with 843 points, only behind champion Marian, which finished with 1,200 points after each event’s results were totaled.
Noonan, meanwhile, edged Marian’s Colton Barrett by eight points to claim the men’s championship. FLC’s Dean Haas finished fourth.
Lauren Catlin was the top finisher for FLC in the women’s omnium, finishing in 24th place.
Haas capped the weekend with a national title in the men’s scratch race, while Noonan locked up his omnium title with an 11th-place finish. Catlin was FLC’s top women’s finisher in the scratch race in 15th, while Ivie Crawford was 20th.
The FLC men’s team of Haas, Troy Meeker, Noonan and Max Thilen finished second to Marian in the team pursuit Saturday, while the women’s squad of Catlin, Maddie Chaves, Crawford and Meghan Kane was fourth. Catlin, Haas, Kane and Meeker teamed up for a runner-up finish in the team sprint, as well.
Noonan finished eighth to top the Skyhawks’ finishers in the time trial on the men’s side, and Kane topped the FLC women in 37th.
Noonan added a runner-up finish in the individual pursuit Friday, coming in a little more than 3 seconds behind champion David Novak of Lindsey Wilson College. Haas finished ninth for FLC.
Catlin led the FLC women with an 11th-place finish, and Crawford was 24th.
Noonan’s weekend haul included another silver medal in the points race behind champion Jos Chalmers of Marian, while Haas finished 14th.
Catlin again was the top women’s finisher in 26th.
Haas grabbed the top spot in the men’s sprint for FLC, finishing 12th behind champion Matthew Baranoski of Penn State.
Chaves was the first FLC woman to finish, coming in 30th behind champion Stephanie Torres of Marian.
