Fort Lewis College softball player Angelique Elemen made program history Wednesday.
After receiving All-South Central Region and All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First-Team honors for her work on the diamond this season, the FLC offensive powerhouse became the first Skyhawks softball player named to the All-America team.
Wednesday’s National Fastpitch Coaches Association announcement honored 51 Division II players from 37 different schools, and Elemen was named to the second team.
The sophomore catcher led the Skyhawks with a .408 batting average this season and blasted a team-high 17 home runs which put her second among league leaders. She was also second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and led the Skyhawks with 58 hits. The Litchfield Park, Arizona product started 46 of FLC’s 49 games and also led the Skyhawks in on-base percentage (.475), slugging percentage (.852), runs batted in (61) and total bases (121). She hit safely in 33 games, recorded 17 multi-hit games and hit two home runs in a game twice.
Behind the plate, Elemen was just as reliable as she was in the batter’s box. She made only one error all season on 104 chances. She also recorded 91 putouts and 12 assists.
