Fort Lewis College cross country and track coach resigns

Mark Dutro coached first FLC women’s track and field team

After five years at Fort Lewis College, Skyhawks’ head cross country and track and field coach Mark Dutro resigned on Monday.

Dutro was the school’s first head coach of women’s track and field at FLC and also spent time coaching at Durango High School.

“I am announcing my resignation from Fort Lewis College for personal and family reasons,” Dutro said Monday in a press release. “I would like to thank President Dene Thomas and Athletic Director Gary Hunter for giving me the opportunity to coach the cross country programs and the women’s track and field program.”

Dutro will continue teaching in the FLC Exercise Science Department through the end of the semester. Since 2002, he has taught numerous health, wellness, physical training and exercise classes at Fort Lewis College.

“Mark has done an outstanding job with very limited resources in the most competitive cross country and track conference in NCAA Division II,” said Hunter. “He was the driving force behind the addition of our women’s track and field program three years ago. We shall miss him but wish him the best of luck.”

A search will begin immediately to replace Dutro.
