This is 92-year-old Eduardo Medina in 1969 proudly displaying the model train he had recently completed. Considered a worthy example of regional Folk Art, the model is now part of the Animas Museum collection. It is a distinctive piece of handcrafted art created by a man in his 10th decade of life, as a gift for his beloved Durango grandson. The steam locomotive with an 0-6-2-wheel configuration has an attached tender lettered “D.&R.G.W.R.R.C.O.” It is painted black with silver running gear and a smokebox numbered “1914.” – Ed Horvat for Animas Museum, edhorvat@animasmuseum.org (Catalog Number: 89.25.2 from the La Plata County Historical Society Photo Collections)
