Local galleries open their doors for an evening of fun. and art

Twice a year, the galleries in Durango all come together to show off their newest offerings in a fun evening full of music, snacks and, of course, amazing art.

Tonight is one of those nights. Here is a sampling of what you can see.

Diane West Jewelry & Art, 820 Main Ave., 5-8 p.m.

The work of Kathleen Hope, a mixed-media artist based in Fountain Hills, Arizona., will be featured. Hope’s work is influenced by her diverse background in interior design and color psychology. She has chosen primarily cement as her medium. It is organic, raw, industrial and unpredictable. Hope has developed many types of cement mixes, each with its own special purpose. By combining many diverse materials such as dried pigment, paper, plaster and marble dust, she creates a textural layered effect.

Toh-Atin Gallery, 145 W. Ninth St., 5-8 p.m.

Featuring a collection of works by Mamie Deschillie, the Navajo Nation’s Mother of Folk Art.

Noah Stotz’s “Sunflower Subwoofer,” made of metal and burlap, is one of the pieces in Studio & Gallery’s “On The Daily: Coffee & Tea – Juried Exhibition,” that will celebrate its opening reception during the Fall Gallery Walk. (Courtesy of Studio & Gallery)

“From Junk Mail to Masterpiece: The Art of Dianne Adams”: Mixed-media artist Dianne Adams. Adams’ art is a fusion of texture and color, created from the most unexpected of materials – junk mail. She handcrafts her own paper, which becomes the foundation for her intricate collages and stunning paintings. Using watercolor and acrylic, she transforms discarded pieces into vibrant, thought-provoking compositions. Each artwork is a one-of-a-kind creation, embedded with subtle text messages that invite viewers to look closer and discover hidden layers of meaning.
