Demons net five on the Front Range

Another trip to the Front Range, another decisive win for the Durango Demons.

Durango (4-0-1) won its opening game of the Kadet Kickoff at Air Academy with a 5-1 victory Friday against St. Mary’s (1-1-0).

Durango High School junior Vance Bulen scored a pair of goals, and the Demons also received goals from DHS freshman Elijah Fenton, DHS sophomore Luke Stetler and DHS senior captain Tony Williams.

Durango now has scored 20 goals in the first five games of its season.

“We knew we would be a well-balanced attacking team coming into the season with the personnel we have,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said. “We are continuing to be consistent with the attack and what we are working on now. We’re always fine-tuning the attack, but if we can average two or three goals a game, we are going to like where that puts us.”

DHS led Friday’s game 4-0 at halftime and scored its fifth goal just five minutes into the second.

Parker said the team’s communication was key.

“Everything is about consistency, and we had that. We had it in the communication, in our passing, our touches and our discipline,” Parker said. “Our overall play was very strong.”

DHS goalkeeper Lars Schwaebe, a senior, only faced three or four shots on goal, Parker estimated.

DHS will play Discovery Canyon (2-0-0) at 10 a.m. Saturday.
