Both Ignacio basketball teams are heading to regional action Friday in Gunnison after winning the 1A/2A San Juan Basin League tournament in Cortez.
The girls handily defeated Norwood early Saturday afternoon, 37-22. Morgan Herrera scored a game-high 14 points, followed by Avionne Gomez with 11 and Alejandra Lujan with 10.
In a much tighter game against Telluride, the Ignacio boys squeaked out a win, 45-44. Lawrence Valdez scored the game-winning three pointer with seven seconds left at the end, securing another district tournament win for the Bobcats. Cole McCaw and Johnny Valdez lead the scoring with 10 points each, while Joaquin King scored nine points.
Both teams move onto regional action Friday at Western State University in Gunnison.
In 3A InterMountain League action in Bayfield, the Wolverine boys defeated Centauri on Friday night, 51-45. That moves Bayfield into tonight's championship game against Alamosa at 6:30 p.m.
