Durango girls lacrosse handed two tough losses

The Durango High School girls lacrosse team had two tough games over the weekend when the Demons were on the road against Summit and Steamboat Springs.

The Demons lost 12-9 to Summit on Friday and 12-12 in triple overtime to Steamboat Springs on Saturday.

Durango started off slow against Summit and was down 9-3 at halftime. After a quick pep talk, the Demons pulled together for a strong second half, outscoring Summit 6-3 in the later part of the game.

Shilo Gillen scored four goals, Alix Gillen had three goals, and Gracie Weaver had one coast-to-coast goal. Shaelee Hawkins had one goal and three assists.

The biggest help came from Joie Raybourn, who played center. She controlled 90 percent of the draws.

Saturday, Durango played a tight contest against Steamboat. At the end of regulation, Durango and Steamboat were tied at 12.

The game went back-and-forth and reached three sudden death overtimes. After it was all said and done, Steamboat was able to come away with the win.

Gillen again led the Demons with with seven goals, and Hawkins had two goals and four assists.
