Durango Swim Club to host 12-hour Relay Challenge fundraiser for second consecutive year

Club hopes to raise $8,000
The 2018 Durango Swim Club.

The Durango Swim Club will hold its second annual 12-hour Relay Challenge on Saturday at the Durango Recreation Center.

Teams for the challenge will feature four athletes taking turns swimming for a designated amount of time. The challenge will include three-, six- and 12-hour relays, which will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“It’s a great event. I coach many of the 10-and-unders and they accomplish a lot of things they don’t think are possible,” DSC assistant coach Julia Carroll said in a news release. “Not many teams in the country do 12-hour relays. So it’s fun to see how excited our kids get and the camaraderie and pride it builds.”

The challenge serves as the biggest fundraising event of the year for DSC, and last year’s event featured close to 40 athletes participating and raised $7,500. This year, DSC expects as many as 70 competitors and the club hopes to raise $8,000.
