Durangoan helps Team USA paddle to gold in Germany

Durangoan Zach “Bug” Lokken helped Team USA to a C1 men’s team race gold medal at the Slalom World Cup Finals on Aug. 16 in Augsburg, Germany, something the Americans haven’t done in nearly two decades.

Durangoan Zach “Bug” Lokken helped accomplish something no American has in almost two decades: win a gold medal in the C1 men’s team race at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Slalom World Cup Final on Aug. 16 in Augsburg, Germany.

Lokken, son of Angela and Eric Lokken, teamed with two-time Olympian Casey Eichfeld and two-time Olympic medalist Fabien Lefevre to garner just one 2-second penalty during the winning run.

They were seeded third after the semifinals and jumped into first on the final run.

Lokken could not be reached for comment.
